- Production of Fuel Alcohol
In the 1970s, the bagasse of sugar mills in my country was mainly used as fuel for the sugar mills themselves to burn or discard. The economic value of this method of utilization was very low. The cellulose in bagasse can be converted into sugar to make alcohol or feed yeast.
Brazil’s technology for ethanol production from bagasse developed in the 1980s is in the leading position in the world and has been patented in many countries. The new technology can extract 100 liters of alcohol from each ton of bagasse, making the alcohol output of sugarcane increased by 7740. Liter increased to 13,800 liters, without the need to expand the planting area of sugarcane, the output of alcohol can be doubled (14.8 billion liters in 2003/2004), and the cost can be reduced by 40%.
- Bagasse as feed
Over the years, many scholars at home and abroad have devoted themselves to developing and researching by-products from sugar mills as feed and have achieved certain results. For example, an American Animal Husbandry Research Institute invented a method of processing bagasse into high-protein feed after ammoniating. The specific method is: mix bagasse with urea or amide (100:2 aqueous solution), soak the bagasse completely, steam it in a heating pot under a pressure of 14kg for 2 hours, and mix when the temperature is cooled to about 25°C after being out of the pot. It is fermented with yeast, the gas produced is discharged clean after fermentation, the bagasse is dried and ground into a fine powder before it can be used as feed.
- Bagasse is used as an environmental protection material:
Papermaking: At present, there are mature technologies that use bagasse as a substitute for wood to produce paper cup base paper, fully degradable paper agricultural film, and paper catering utensils. Among them, the fully degradable paper agricultural mulch is made of 100% bagasse pulp, which can be recycled for papermaking and can be naturally degraded. It can solve the white pollution problem caused by the use of polystyrene tableware for many years. It is considered to be the most promising New achievement; catering made of bagasse has high whiteness and compactness, good temperature and oil resistance, non-toxic and tasteless, and can be completely degraded within three months. There is no three-waste pollution in the production process, and the production cost is greatly reduced. For pulp molded snack boxes, creating excellent conditions for the development of the emerging environmental protection industry.
